Brief of LASCOMED Unit Representatives/Executives Meeting Held at Ajeromi General Hospital on 14th March 2019

Meeting was called to order at 12noon by the president with an opening prayer said by Chief Nursing officer Odewale F. O.(Ajeromi)

WELCOME ADDRESS:

Mr. Dina J. O. the president welcomed everyone to the meeting, appreciated all unit representatives and members, despite the non- remittance of the money deducted by the State Government, they still stood by the society.

He introduced the Deputy Medical Director Dr. Idowu O. and the Director of Administration Mr. Olumese.

The Deputy Medical Director Dr. Idowu Adewale who represented the Medical Director,he gave a brief description of Ajeromi General Hospital and advised members not to take cooperative for granted because all what he had achieved was through cooperative,  bank couldn’t have done it without charging a huge interest.  He hope the incoming Governor will perform better, he implored members to preach  LASCOMED to new staff  and wished the house a successful deliberation.

Apex Nurse Mrs. Banjo welcomed everyone to the meeting and pray for the continuous success of the society.

 READING OF THE LAST MINUTES:

 MOTION FOR ADOPTION OF MINUTES:

Motion was moved by Mr. Amuda(Isolo) seconded by Mrs. Adebayo (GHL).

 MATTERS ARISING :

1.0    LOAN:

The president  explained to the house about the society still being handicapped due to the delay in remittance of the society money owed by the State Government , he explained that the government is the only authority that helps in deduction, the delay started  since May 2018 and lingered on till date. He apologized on behalf of the government and at the same time, he highlighted to the members the steps that have been  taken ,by writing to the House of Assembly.

He explained that December money was paid in first week of  March. Based on the money received, part was used to pay loans (Below 1M) and remaining was used to pay dividend.

Loan Disbursed in November : N218,888,335.04k

Comments:

  • Mrs. Odewale appreciated the executives for a job welldone, and said she is just hearing   that the government is owing the society, she suggested the use of legal proceeding for the government.

Response:

  • The president told the house that they should bear it in mind that the government is their employer and all that needs to be done, the executives has done it, is now left for the government to do their part by releasing our remittance as at when due.

2.0      LAND:

Laiye-Ode:

  • Members are not forthcoming to subscribe to the Estate.
  • N8.5M for 2-bed rooms
  • N10M for 3 bed rooms  to be paid for 7years and if the society has the intension to sell to outsiders the price will be higher.

Erunwen:

  • 300 plots of land were allocated to members for the past 17years, less than 50 people  has taken possession, No more selling of Land because land is sold for N4M in that area now.
  • List of Allotees were called out to unit representatives and members, so that they can inform them again.
  • Three months grace is given to the allottess to possess the land, there after, the society will take action which will be backed up by legal proceedings.

Badagry:

The title papers is still under processing, people had been sent to verify the land from Abuja.

Comments:

  • Mrs. Owolu said the land allocated to her is water logged, so she is demanding for another land.
  • Dr. AkinadeOjo suggested that all land allottees should be called for a meeting.
  • Mrs. Agbai(Ajeromi) suggested a mailing  system to pass information to members.

Response:

  • The President responded that the secretariat has sent messages and called the land allottees. Some have responded, some have retired and some are yet to reply.
  • The society did not have much control on the land because adequate paper was not given to land allottees initially.
  • The delay in developing Erunwen land led to building of Laiyeode Estate.
  • Dr. AkinadeOjo suggested that the allottees must not be allowed to sell the land to non-members.

3.0 DIVIDEND:

  • Mr. Ogundeyi  K(Ajeromi) made comments that dividend should be paid yearly and the society should always plan ahead to pay dividend.
  • Mrs. Dada (Ajeromi) wants to know the benefit derived from being a member of LASCOMED cooperative society.
  • Mrs. Ajibola Salami unit representatives said she noticed that some members belongs to two cooperative society, LASCOMED and Oshodi-Isolo.

Response:

  • Mr. Amuda(Isolo) explained that some people are paying in cash to Oshodi Isolo, as community based cooperative society, they registered as business members and not as civil servants.
  • Dividend cannot be paid until the end of the year in which the account of the society must have been approved by the Ministry.

4.0 COMMODITY:

  • Mrs. Agbai(Ajeromi) asked if the society can transport the commodity directly to the units because the society’s rice is too expensive compared with the prevailing market price.
    • Mr. OgundeyiK.(Ajeromi) said if commodities is received twice in a year, it should not be received late.
    • So many people are owing the society as a result of taking too many commodities.

Response:

  • Distribution of  commodities twice in a year was a joint agreement and the management have been meeting up, not until recently that delay in remittance, the problem of customs on importation of rice.is affecting the purchase of commodity most especially rice and this is also due to
    • Sending commodity to unit is not feasible, price of rice is based on quality and not quantity.
    • The president told the house that our commodities has been confiscated by customs before.

4.0       AOB/GENERAL:

  • Mrs. Agbayi asked if the society can help to plan for members on what they can use their money to do.
  • Mrs. Marindoti asked for clarification about interest rate.
  • Mrs. Idowu M.(Ajeromi) explained to the house how LASCOMED has helped h  er and she asked for souvenir.
  • Mrs. Lawal requested that statement of account should be sent to individual to relieve them of calling the office at all times in which the staffs don’t pick their calls.

Response:

  • Mrs. Bakare(Financial Secretary) responded that members should attend meetings for information because most of the questions asked by Ajeromi members are always discussed at unit representatives meeting and zonal education.
  • some member deceivewhen they are filling forms for loan, and  we cannot monitor them on what they use their money for, we can only encourage members to save, some people have used the society loan to build, send children to school, buy cars and so on.
  • Mr. Remi (STAFF) explained in details on the loan interest rate 5%,7.5%, 10% and 12% in 6months, 12months, 18months and 24months respectively. Since the society has reduced the interest rate from 10%, 12.5% and 15% in 12,18 and 24months, this will definitely affects our dividend.

Response:

  • Members are adviced to attend meetings in their units, that is the only avenue to get more information about their cooperative society.
  • E-service is to commenced by very soon.

RECONGNITION OF MEMBERS: About 22 members of  Ajeromi General Hospital were duelyrecongnized and they were appreciated for a successful hosting

NEXT MEETING: The next meeting was scheduled to hold at General Hospital Lagos on 14th May 2019 at 10.00am.

MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT: Motion for adjournment was moved by Mr. Okeowo O. (Ikorodu) and seconded by Mrs. Oguntope (Ketu Ejirin).

CLOSING: Meeting came to a close at 2pm with closing prayer said by Mrs. Salami (Ajeromi).
