Gentlemen of the press,
Ladies and Gentlemen
Ever since the evolution of man, the human race has not stopped the pursuit of new things. History is made each time a new landmark achievement is recorded.
From a trip to the moon to the submarine ship in the depth of the ocean;
From the top of the sky-scrapper in Dubai to the tip of the pyramid of Giza in Egypt,
man has shown that given the right team spirit and unalloyed inspiration, there is no end to the intuitive power of creation and innovation which the Almighty God has given man.
Cooperative as a movement provides such platform for bringing ideas together as a team of people with common goals. Our cooperative society The Medicals is unique in this regard because we are trail-blazer and primus inter pares.
Today, in this venue to the glory of God and in the presence of each and everyone of you distinguished Lagosians, a new history is made as we gather to commission our two newly-built, safe and beautiful boats, which is the first of its kind in the annals of history of the cooperative movement in Lagos State.
In a moment, you will see our two-ferries, each of which is locally built in Lagos State as a 30-seater boat with twin imported engines and comfortable overhead roof.
These boats have been certified safe and registered with LASWA and are ready to ply our waterways conveying people from Ikorodu terminals to Falomo terminals.
This investment in water transportation was undertaken because of the challenges of heavy traffic that most workers face on our roads to and from work. This project was completed without a bank loan. Thank you for cheering us with an applaud.
It is our fervent hope that most Lagosians along this corridor will take advantage of this opportunity which is aimed at relieving their daily stress, thereby improving their lifespans.
The transport fare comes relatively cheap too.
The Medicals (Lagos Island) cooperative is made up of health professionals in General Hospitals across the state like doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, laboratory scientists, pharmacists, hospital managers and so on, we know the importance of getting to work at the right time, which is one of the benefits of this projects. Hence promoting workers efficiency in Lagos State.
We are grateful to Mr. Governor and his amiable wife, the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu (who is one of our members) for their inspiration and encouragement.
Join me also to appreciate all our society’s past leaders for their mentorship role. Many thanks also to the director of cooperative services in Lagos State for her immense support.
I would also like to appreciate our Lagos Island cooperative Area officer for her core professional services.
To my management committee members and all the hospital unit representatives, thank you for your cooperation, you are the best. Not forgetting the invaluable contributions of the staff of Savvy Marine headed by Mr Lekan Taiwo, for their support and assistance during the construction of the Ferries and subsequently seeing to the smooth running of the Ferries when full operation commences.
While we call on you to patronize our ferries and introduce us to your families and friends so that we can recoup our business capital, I would like to use this medium to remind all of us of our civic responsibilities of getting our permanent voters cards (PVC) in order to vote APC to power at the next polls.
Thank you all.
